Postpartum mental health is bigger than depression. Parents may also experience anxiety, panic attacks, intrusive thoughts, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, or trauma after birth. Postpartum psychosis is a medical emergency that requires immediate care.![]()
You can love your baby and still not feel okay.
You can be grateful and still feel depressed.
You can love your child deeply and feel disconnected from yourself.
You can look happy in pictures and still be struggling internally.![]()
Asking for help does not mean you are failing. It means you are human.![]()
ACOG recommends that postpartum care include attention to psychological well-being and screening for postpartum depression and anxiety. Postpartum Support International reports that approximately 1 in 5 mothers and 1 in 10 fathers experience postpartum depression.![]()
You do not have to wait until you are completely overwhelmed to reach out. Talk with your obstetrician, midwife, primary-care provider, therapist, psychiatrist, or another qualified healthcare professional.![]()

Does My Teen Need Therapy? 10 Signs to Look For![]()
Just normal teen moodiness, or something more? Parents question that all the time.![]()
Teenagers want privacy. They get annoyed with you, switch friends, have bad days, and slam doors. Those things alone don’t necessarily mean a teen needs therapy.![]()
But sometimes something more is going on. ![]()
Fwd- Why Therapy Searches in Chicago May Be Missing Third Coast Wellness.pdf![]()
A good place to start is by asking yourself:![]()
How long has this been going on? How distressing do they find it? Are these changes affecting their everyday life?![]()
You don’t need to be your child’s diagnosis. You only need to be able to tell what is different. ![]()
Fwd- Why Therapy Searches in Chicago May Be Missing Third Coast Wellness.pdf![]()
Some things worth paying attention to include sadness or hopelessness, anxiety that gets in the way of daily life, increased anger, losing interest in things they used to enjoy, and pulling away from people. Changes in self-esteem, behavior, sleep or eating, school performance, relationships, or frequent physical complaints can matter too. ![]()
You don’t have to wait until your teenager is in a full-blown crisis to ask for help. If you’ve been looking at your teen and thinking, “Something just doesn’t seem right,” it’s okay to trust that observation. A therapist can help you understand whether the changes you’re seeing are part of normal development, a response to stress, or something that deserves additional support. ![]()

What If My Teen Says, “I’m Fine”?![]()
If you’re the parent of a teen, you’ve probably heard “I’m fine” more times than you can count.![]()
And maybe they actually are fine.![]()
Or perhaps they haven’t noticed their own patterns yet. Many teens don’t have the language to describe what they’re experiencing. Sometimes, like anyone, they simply want privacy and don’t want to talk about it with you.![]()
Sandra suggests starting somewhere simple:![]()
“I know you may be okay, but I’ve noticed you’ve seemed different lately. I just want to make sure you’re okay, and I’m here if you need me.”![]()
Sometimes letting them know you’re listening—without passing judgment—is a good first step toward helping them feel comfortable opening up.![]()
You don’t have to figure it out alone, and you don’t have to wait until your teenager is in a crisis to ask for help.![]()
At Third Coast Wellness, we work with adolescents and young adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, emotional regulation difficulties, self-esteem concerns, and relationship challenges.![]()
Therapy can provide a supportive space to understand what’s happening, build coping strategies, and navigate adolescence and young adulthood.![]()
If your teen talks about suicide or self-harm, take it seriously. If you believe they are in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. You can also call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.![]()
