Becoming a mother is one of the most significant transitions that will ever take place in a woman’s life and being a mom is not always easy! Getting support at this time is essential to helping you embrace your new role and the many changes it brings.
Motherhood can bring with it the highest of highs of pure love and joy coupled with the lowest of lows of exhaustion, uncertainty and at times depression and anxiety. Despite dreaming, preparing and working hard to become a mother, some women begin feeling ambivalent and detached from their baby and others. Many women also grieve the loss of their pre-pregnancy figure and mourn their independence and freedom they had before taking on the role of motherhood.
Although having these feelings can make you feel guilty, isolated and alone in your struggle, these emotions are actually universal experiences that many moms feel. Your feelings are not a reflection of who you are as woman or a mother, but merely an indication you need help and support as you navigate this immense transition.
